Barbara’s Message to Our TFI Fellows

I’m reaching out to share some personal news – I’ll be stepping down from my role as Executive Director of the Teaching Fellows Institute to retire in early 2025.
Having the chance to work with this extraordinary group of educators for over a decade has been a truly rewarding experience, and your recognition of my efforts during this journey has warmed my heart.

As the Executive Director, it’s been a source of joy to navigate TFI through trying times, fostering its growth and resilience as we enter the third decade of serving our remarkable educators. Overcoming the hurdles posed by the pandemic and delivering value to you in that unusual period is something I will remember with a sense of accomplishment. I feel assured that I’m leaving TFI in as robust a position as currently possible and primed for the incoming Executive Director to nurture and expand. With over a decade at the helm of TFI, I believe that a fresh leadership approach can usher in new possibilities for TFI and our educators.

The search for my successor is well underway and in capable hands! Our knowledgeable TFI Board members: Ariana Shahinfar, Theresa Kasay, Sonja Taylor, and Michael Magno are in collaboration with a (pro bono) HR consultant from a Fortune 100 company who even has NC roots. Confidence in the process is high!

I’m grateful to all of you for the chance to serve you and TFI in this capacity. My best wishes to each one of you personally and professionally for the future.

It was such a pleasure to get to know you! Thank you for all the work you did to promote Positive Discipline with the Teaching Fellows – they are a special group indeed!

I am so happy for you that you are retiring. You have left your mark in the community and made it better than it was before you. Best wishes for whatever pursuits you follow in the future!

Thank you Susan! Your presentations were some of TFI’s programming highlights that have withstood the test of time! Our Fellows still return to your concepts and materials!
